The 30th Great Blue Heron Music Festival

With the 30th Great Blue Heron Music Festival just weeks away, Julie and Steve Rockcastle with their dedicated team, are working steadily to ready the land for the thousands of music fans who come back each year to this annual homecoming. For so many, this opportunity to celebrate 30 years of music and dance with friends and family is a big deal. “Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine being part of something that has had such a positive impact on so many lives,” says Julie.

For the first time in three years, the event is returning to full production with live performances on all three stages: The Main Stage, the big top Dance Tent, and the Tiger Maple Stage. In addition to music, the festival will once again offer instrument and dance workshops, a full slate of creative activities for young children and teens, a vibrant drum circle, as well as a sandy beach by the spring-fed pond for cooling off during the day.

Roots-rock favorites Donna the Buffalo are back for their 30th year and bring with them their unique brand of danceable Americana rock. They have been a crowd-pleasing staple of the event since the very start. Other returning favorites include reggae zen master Kevin Kinsella, Jim Donovan’s Sun King Warriors, the Tiger Maple String Band, The Probables, Root Shock, and Smackdab. They’ll be joined by several acts playing the Heron for the first time, including legendary bluegrass pioneer Peter Rowan, string wizards Keller & the Keels, Brooklyn afrobeat purveyors Kaleta & Super Yamba Band, the comfy “pop with a twist” sounds of Boston’s Couch, and bluegrass ambassadors Henhouse Prowlers.
