Easily overheard in Buffalo over the past six months or so is the question, “Have you been to High Violet?”
Behind Buffalo’s most dapper custom-tailored suit shop, BUREAU: you will find HIGH VIOLET.
Vibe Alert: A twinge of shiny Twin Peaks (if shot by the likes of Jean-Pierre Jeunet) meets lush style, high class, and exquisitely crafted cocktails.
In addition, they offer a menu of small plates, somewhat larger entrees, and a smattering of snacks.
High Violet is at 710 Elmwood open, Wednesday through Saturday, starting at 5 pm.
This episode of Bitters features Nico Kelly’s Fer-de-Lance.
The cocktail, which gets its name from highly venomous snakes of the viper family, contains:
.5oz tequila
1oz strawberry syrup
.5oz blood orange liqueur (i.e. Amara Sicilian Blood Orange / Solerno / Fabrizia)
.25oz yellow, chartreuse
.5oz lemon
.25oz lime
a few Dashes of saline and half of a muddled Fresno chili.
This gorgeous cocktail is as complex on the palate as it is easy on the eyes. Heat bites the sides of the tongue, then sweet strawberry and blood orange flavors rush in to soothe the mouth. Check out High Violet in person to ignite all of your senses.
