For almost 50 years, the Essex Arts Center, 30 Essex Street has stood the test of time on Buffalo’s West Side. The arts studio, living and performance space has been a major player in fostering Buffalo’s artistic talent for decades. In the past few years, the center continues to flourish as a center of creativity. If you have ever been to one of the Essex Arts Center events, they’re one-of-a-kind.
Celtic rockers Glengarry Bhoys will be playing a concert on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Essex Arts Center, 30 Essex Street, Buffalo, NY. The gates will open at 7:00 p.m. The event is a benefit for the Ashford Hollow Foundation which owns and operates the Essex Arts Center and Griffis Sculpture Park.
In addition to the Glengarry Bhoys, there will be performances by Fleuron Rouge belly dancers and Sly Boots School of Music. The concert will be held outdoors courtyard. In case of rain, the performances will be moved indoors at the complex.
Admission is $15 and can be purchased at the gate or online here.
A beer and wine bar, as well as a tasting from Lockhouse Distillery will be available. There will also be food trucks in attendance. Many of the businesses and studios at Essex Arts Center will be open for tours and visitors.
Essex Arts Center has been a fixture on the West Side of Buffalo since the 1960’s. It had a long tradition of housing artist studio and living space. Many of Buffalo’s arts organizations got their start out of the Essex Arts Center, including Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center. The arts center is also home to two creative businesses that have office space in the complex.
Described as bold, unorthodox, vibrant and evocative, the “Glengarry Bhoys” hybrid of Canadian, Highland Scots and French Canadian musical idioms has evolved into a sound that is weighty, authoritative and extremely entertaining. Their energy and good humor, are as much a part of the show as their musicianship, crosses all cultures and ages. The Glengarry Bhoys are beloved in Buffalo and always creating memorable shows here in the Queen City.
