Mayor Sean Ryan and Buffalo Common Council President Joel Feroleto (lead image), along with Interim Parks Commissioner Steve Buccilli, and Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy Executive Director Catie Stephenson, have announced that new pickleball courts have opened at Delaware Park. These are considered the first municipal pickleball courts in the City of Buffalo.
The courts, located near Agassiz Circle, have been installed at tennis courts that had been in fairly rough shape. Thanks to approximately $120,000 in City parks funding, four courts now operate as brand new pickleball courts.
The ideal location of the courts within Delaware Park means that people can play the game to their heart’s content, without disrupting neighbors.
“Our parks are places where people come together, stay active, and spend time with family and friends,” Mayor Sean Ryan said. “This new court gives residents another way to enjoy Delaware Park, whether they’re longtime pickleball players or trying the sport for the first time. As we evaluate potential locations for additional courts, we’ll also be listening to residents about other sports and recreational activities they’d like to see in their neighborhood parks.”
“I am thrilled about the addition of these pickleball courts to our beloved Delaware Park. We are so lucky to have this historic park and all the amenities it offers right in our backyard,” said Buffalo Common Council President Joel Feroleto.
“Olmsted designed our parks to be used, loved, and shared. These new pickleball courts are a wonderful example of that vision continuing to evolve more than 150 years later—bringing people together through recreation, connection, and the simple joy of being together in one of Buffalo’s most treasured public spaces. Delaware Park has always belonged to the people of Buffalo, and investments like this ensure it remains a vibrant part of daily life for generations to come,” said Catie Stephenson, Executive Director, Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy.
Location: Near the radio tower off South Meadow Drive in Delaware Park, Buffalo, NY (replacing the old tennis courts near Agassiz Circle).
