Irish Pubs in Buffalo: D’Arcy McGee’s

With a crowded market of restaurants and bars in Buffalo, there is one common theme that has cut through the clutter and has proven to be a successful concept and rather enjoyable experience. I am talking about the popular Irish Pub scene in Buffalo, which is chock-full of authentic food, drinks, music and history. This article is the first of a series that will explore many of Buffalo‘s outstanding traditional Irish pubs and the Irish entertainment that is offered.

First on the list is D’Arcy McGee’s Irish Pub, located right in the heart of the downtown scene at the corner of Franklin and Chippewa. One appealing aspect of this pub is the authentic Irish craftsmanship, designed by Gemmell Giffin and Dunbar, who recreated the warmth of an Irish Pub using the same materials and designs that have stood for centuries in Ireland. Every detail of the pub was designed and crafted in Ireland, hand picked from various auction houses in Ireland, and shipped to Buffalo to create the feeling of being in a pub right in the heart of the Emerald Isle.

This June, D’Arcy McGee’s will be celebrating eight years of business, and in recognition of this mile stone, will be redesigning the menu. “Our goal is to try and incorporate more Irish menu items in the fall,” stated Connor Hawkins, general manager. The soon to be added items include more fish, pork, shanks, lamb, and an Irish banoffee pie; just to mention a few. Currently, one can visit this pub and enjoy award-winning Shepherd’s Pie, Dublin City Fish-n-Chips, Corned Beef and Cabbage and Bangers-n-Mash.  All authentic Irish meals!

Yet, can you dine on traditional Irish fare without a Guinness in front of you? I think not. Currently, D’Arcy McGee’s provides authentic Irish beverages shipped directly from Ireland. In particular, the draft beers: Guinness, Guinness 250 Anniversary Stout, Harp Lager, Magners Cider and Smithwick’s Ale, are the liquid heart of this Irish Pub.

However, in my opinion, no pub is complete without the sounds of Irish music, which at D’Arcy McGee’s is hand selected and constantly playing in the pub to complete the Irish atmosphere. This pub also employs a bartender and server from Ireland, which brings the authentic Irish experience full circle.

Join this pub every Friday night for live Irish music, or stop in to experience the Irish heritage without traveling overseas. For more information visit D’Arcy McGee’s website, or call 716.853.3600.
