Remembrance of Things Fast: True Stories Visual Lies, 1994 by John Maybury is a landmark work, in terms of its use of high-end post-production techniques and visual f/x to construct an imaginary, complex and thoroughly queer virtual landscape — one which extravagantly references the tropes and visual language of broadcast television, underground film, gay porn, drag & club culture, activist détournement, and music videos, while fluidly slipping between the boundaries separating those mediums. – Sean Capone, curator

Music is Art in conjunction with GCR Audio Recording Studios announces
Chris Main — Barbarians at the Gate

Inhabiting the multiple walls and levels of Robby Takac’s GCR Audio on Friday, December 6th,
Chris Main will host an artist’s reception at GCR Audio Recording Studios exhibiting old and new works. Main’s body of work is influenced by a lifetime intake of pop culture; comic books, sci-fi, skateboard art, and music, with a heavy dose of typography and graphic design. His bold use of color makes his work easily identifiable. With the holidays approaching, this showcase provides a great opportunity to acquire Main’s work for a special recipient or yourself.

Accompanying live entertainment will include a performance and live studio recording session
by The Hot Club Express, featuring E.J. Koeppel and Dean Gionis.

Chris Main is a Buffalo-based artist working as a Digital Marketing Director. He has exhibited in group and solo shows in the Bay Area and Buffalo. He has created large-scale art pieces such as the ceiling at Misuta Chow’s, the mural in the new Hyatt’s art store location, Hertel Alley festival and more. He’s painted large scale murals at the Music is Art Festival for the past decade and his live paintings for the annual MiA street party fundraiser have become sought after live auction acquisitions.

This is a FREE event!

Additional private viewings of his work are available by appointment.
Artwork is available for purchase. Complimentary beverages provided.

El Coquí Espectacular and the Bottle of Doom
Alex, a comic book artist whose ideas might be “too Puerto Rican,” has begun secretly dressing up as his creation: El Coquí Espectacular, defender of Nuyoricans in all five boroughs! When his brother Joe is fired from a project for not being Puerto Rican enough, the two, with the help of a young photographer named Yesica, hatch a plan: to debut El Coquí at the Puerto Rican Day Parade and prove themselves to the world. El Coquí Espectacular and the Bottle of Doom examines the ways in which we define our heritage and ourselves.

UPDATED – Totally Buffalo’s 3rd Annual ‘716MAS’ Festival Coming Back to Riverworks on
Dec 7th and 8th

One of Buffalo’s most exciting holiday festivals is coming back in early December for its 3rd installment at a historic WNY location and it promises to once again be the biggest shop local event Western New York has ever seen. The 3rd annual Totally Buffalo ‘716MAS’ Festival’ will be held on Saturday & Sunday, December 7th and 8th, 2019 at Buffalo Riverworks.

Building off the success of the first two years, the ‘716MAS’Festival will be showcasing over 100 local vendors offering stunning Buffalo-themed signs, shirts, towels, jewelry, photographs, paintings and more. Santa will be on hand on both days, along with appearances by Star Wars characters, live music and other special surprises.

In keeping with Totally Buffalo’s mission, ‘716MAS’ will continue to celebrate Buffalo and everything that we love about it. And to add that special festive touch, the live music will feature local school and church groups performing Christmas music all day on both days, as well as performances on both days from the infamous ‘Santa Band’. Portions of the proceeds from the festival will go to Totally Buffalo’s ‘Hope for The Holidays’ (www.totallybuffalohopefortheholidays.org).

“The ‘716MAS’ Festival has drawn more than 15,000 people combined over the first 2 years and we can’t wait for version 3.0,” says Scott Celani, Festival Co-Founder and Buffalo-based musician. “We are so excited to be showcasing so many talented vendors and entertainers. They are 100% local and they reflect the vibrant spirit of our community that we all love so much.”

The Totally Buffalo ‘716MAS’ Festival runs from 11:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, Dec 7th and 8th. Admission is $5 at the door. Kids 5 and under are admitted for free. Advance tickets are available at totallybuffalo.com . Free shuttle service to Riverworks will also be available for guests parking in the satellite lots. Buffalo Riverworks is located at 359 Ganson St. in Buffalo.

The Totally Buffalo ‘716MAS’ Festival is sponsored by Clean Green Mart, Cellino Plumbing, Sit Means Sit Dog Training, Allegany Mountain Resort, We R Nuts NY, Frey Electric, Braymiller Builders, Axa Advisors, Bathfitter, Gutter Logic, Jim’s Floors & More and WKBW-Channel 7.

Super excited to announce our largest winter Yelp event: a festival focused on all things coffee/tea/chocolates/baked goods! Come enjoy our region’s largest display of local roasters, coffee liqueur, bites, baked goods and samples. Don’t worry, we’ll have decaf too given the timing of the event!

We’ll have art made with coffee grounds, delicious samples as well as topical holiday gifts that you can buy for your loved ones!

River Works will also have open skating where you can go and skate to your heart’s content with a skate rental as well.

Entrance to the event and the samples are free, but we encourage a donation of $5 or whatever you want to give at the door to benefit Buffalo Is Creative, the coffee-loving folks who bring you the breakfast speaker series, CreativeMornings/Buffalo. On the second Friday of every month, this free, entirely-volunteer-run program sparks connections through a celebration of our city’s creative voices, invigorating folks to invest their creative capital into the region. Consider donating $5–the price of a latte–to help further their mission of supporting Buffalo’s creative community.

Sample some locally brewed craft beers, learn the fundamentals of tasting techniques and understand why a financial plan is so important for the money you have (or would like to have).

The boardroom isn’t a place to get answers about craft beer and the barroom isn’t the place to chart your financial path. This class brings instruction about both topics to the same place, creatively merging information about financial plans with the fun of craft beer and brewing knowledge.

Together, we’ll alternate through topics like what ingredients go into making a full-bodied craft brew and how a financial plan is used to map a path to help reach your goals. Most importantly, we’ll sip craft beer and enjoy some food throughout a night that’s not your typical session.

You’d never set out on a cross-country road trip without consulting a map. Likewise, you can’t expect to reach your financial goals without developing a strategy for spending and saving.

Budgets play a critical role in helping people pay off debt, make the most of their hard-earned dollars and assist in building a secure financial future. Yet, despite best intentions, many people lack the money-management skills necessary to get their bank accounts under control.

In this class, our instructors will break down the budget writing process and help you to build your own personal budget. You will leave with the information and tools necessary to help you make informed decisions with your money.

A Year of Transformation Workshop

I’m excited to share with you the nine opportunities for you to prepare for the New Year of Transformation.2020 is going to a most memorable year!

We start the year with a type of `de-construction’ of our lives, known as the Capricorn line-up, and end the year with a new business-economic-social cycle called the Jupiter Saturn conjunction. Translation; some aspect of our lives is dying to be reborn!

Meanwhile, the planets of relationship–Venus & Mars– will be making major retrogrades, creating a desire to `rethink’ our ambitions, our goals, and `relationships.’

These popular `year ahead’ classes have been part of my service to the community for over a decade now. You don’t have to know `anything’ about astrology to benefit because they are presented in an easy-to-understand format. A power power will guide you in the understanding, and handouts will secure your knowledge. Plus! You will receive a `thank you’ gift certificate of $20 good towards any of my services! Classes held at various locations in WNY plus on-line. Fee: $32.

Register by clicking on the link or call or text 716-930-5011

Please select one of the classes & RSVP at my website: http://cassandrajoanbutler.com or at my meetup group to ensure your spot: https://www.meetup.com/Cassandras-CosmiConnections-Spiritual-Tools-for-Healing/events/266856072/

1) I’ll be at the wonderful Fellowships of the Spirit worship service speaking on the `year ahead during their weekly service on DECEMBER 8th, Sunday at 6:00 pm. Come on down to 282 Dale Drive, Cassadaga, NY for this event!

2) A Winter Solstice Celebration & Message Gallery Night with the wonderful Rev. Angie Abt, on Wednesday December 18th at 7:00 pm at the UUAmherst Church ($30)

And finally! If you have ANY inkling about joining us for the 2020 Transfomational Cruise…contact me directly at 716-812-5766. There is still time
