Sample some locally brewed craft beers, learn the fundamentals of tasting techniques and understand why a financial plan is so important for the money you have (or would like to have).

The boardroom isn’t a place to get answers about craft beer and the barroom isn’t the place to chart your financial path. This class brings instruction about both topics to the same place, creatively merging information about financial plans with the fun of craft beer and brewing knowledge.

Together, we’ll alternate through topics like what ingredients go into making a full-bodied craft brew and how a financial plan is used to map a path to help reach your goals. Most importantly, we’ll sip craft beer and enjoy some food throughout a night that’s not your typical session.

Event Details

Students learn to create an original prints from concept to completion. This class involves conversations that explain some types of printmaking available to artists, while working to create a mono-type print using the Queens City Fine Art’s printing press. Mono-type prints allow for students with limited drawing skills to create compelling images. Using images selected from your interest we guide you to a completed project. Instruction exists in group and individual basis. Focus is on both theoretical and technical development. Once each class concludes everyone gains both knowledge and a physical series of prints.

You’d never set out on a cross-country road trip without consulting a map. Likewise, you can’t expect to reach your financial goals without developing a strategy for spending and saving.

Budgets play a critical role in helping people pay off debt, make the most of their hard-earned dollars and assist in building a secure financial future. Yet, despite best intentions, many people lack the money-management skills necessary to get their bank accounts under control.

In this class, our instructors will break down the budget writing process and help you to build your own personal budget. You will leave with the information and tools necessary to help you make informed decisions with your money.

Remembrance of Things Fast: True Stories Visual Lies, 1994 by John Maybury is a landmark work, in terms of its use of high-end post-production techniques and visual f/x to construct an imaginary, complex and thoroughly queer virtual landscape — one which extravagantly references the tropes and visual language of broadcast television, underground film, gay porn, drag & club culture, activist détournement, and music videos, while fluidly slipping between the boundaries separating those mediums. – Sean Capone, curator

A Year of Transformation Workshop

I’m excited to share with you the nine opportunities for you to prepare for the New Year of Transformation.2020 is going to a most memorable year!

We start the year with a type of `de-construction’ of our lives, known as the Capricorn line-up, and end the year with a new business-economic-social cycle called the Jupiter Saturn conjunction. Translation; some aspect of our lives is dying to be reborn!

Meanwhile, the planets of relationship–Venus & Mars– will be making major retrogrades, creating a desire to `rethink’ our ambitions, our goals, and `relationships.’

These popular `year ahead’ classes have been part of my service to the community for over a decade now. You don’t have to know `anything’ about astrology to benefit because they are presented in an easy-to-understand format. A power power will guide you in the understanding, and handouts will secure your knowledge. Plus! You will receive a `thank you’ gift certificate of $20 good towards any of my services! Classes held at various locations in WNY plus on-line. Fee: $32.

Register by clicking on the link or call or text 716-930-5011

Please select one of the classes & RSVP at my website: http://cassandrajoanbutler.com or at my meetup group to ensure your spot: https://www.meetup.com/Cassandras-CosmiConnections-Spiritual-Tools-for-Healing/events/266856072/

1) I’ll be at the wonderful Fellowships of the Spirit worship service speaking on the `year ahead during their weekly service on DECEMBER 8th, Sunday at 6:00 pm. Come on down to 282 Dale Drive, Cassadaga, NY for this event!

2) A Winter Solstice Celebration & Message Gallery Night with the wonderful Rev. Angie Abt, on Wednesday December 18th at 7:00 pm at the UUAmherst Church ($30)

And finally! If you have ANY inkling about joining us for the 2020 Transfomational Cruise…contact me directly at 716-812-5766. There is still time

El Coquí Espectacular and the Bottle of Doom
Alex, a comic book artist whose ideas might be “too Puerto Rican,” has begun secretly dressing up as his creation: El Coquí Espectacular, defender of Nuyoricans in all five boroughs! When his brother Joe is fired from a project for not being Puerto Rican enough, the two, with the help of a young photographer named Yesica, hatch a plan: to debut El Coquí at the Puerto Rican Day Parade and prove themselves to the world. El Coquí Espectacular and the Bottle of Doom examines the ways in which we define our heritage and ourselves.

This class is a comprehensive workshop on artisan tea that provides an opportunity to sample single-origin teas handcrafted by some of the most talented tea masters in China and Nepal. Attendees will learn about how tea is cultivated, harvested, and crafted in the factory by the tea master. The tasting portion of the workshop will be centered around ten teas that attendees will infuse using a ceremonial Chinese tea set. The types of teas explored in this class include black, green, white, and pu’erh (both sheng “raw” and shu “ripe” pu’erh).

Number of teas: 10

Tea Origin: Yunnan, China; Ilam, Nepal

Types of tea: black, green, white, sheng “raw” pu’erh, shu “ripe”, pu’erh

About Aera Tea:

Aera Tea was established with the simple purpose of sourcing outstanding tea from farmers whose cultivation and business practices demonstrate care for their workers, their community, and the environment. Our suppliers are truly masters of their craft. Our close relationships with them allows us to procure the best portions of each season’s harvest. We only source tea from gardens that we have visited personally and meet our standards for quality and sustainability. We believe that good tea should not be judged solely by taste, but its impact on the community.

Aera Tea was founded by Joe and Victoria Stanek, a brother and sister duo who are passionate about advancing North American tea culture and educating fellow tea drinkers about where their tea comes from, how tea is cultivated and crafted into specialty tea, and the different methods of preparing and serving tea.

Not everyone experiences happiness at the Christmas holidays. In this season of joy and love, many struggle with darkness and grief. Dealing with the death of loved ones, facing life after divorce or separation, coping with job loss, living with cancer or disease that places a question mark over the future, and numerous other human conditions can make parties and the joy of others painful for those living through dark times.

Calvary Church is creating a sacred and safe space for people facing these losses – or, loss of any kind. On Saturday, December 14th at 4 pm, the weekly worship service will be a quiet and meditative service of prayers and readings reminding us that God is with us wherever we may be, a light in the darkness. For this brief service, we share in the quiet darkness of this season, we privately remember times of joy, and we pray with and for people everywhere who long for a future sustained by hope and grace. The service will last about 45 minutes and a reception will follow.

Calvary Episcopal Church is located at 20 Milton Street at the corner of South Cayuga, one block south of Main St. in Williamsville. Limited parking is available next to the church with parking available on Milton St. Overflow parking is available at the municipal lot adjacent to Island Park behind the Williamsville Library. Jamie Haen, OTR/L, RYT, Reiki Master, Theta Healing Practitioner
Jamie was born and raised in Buffalo, NY with many childhood and adult “opportunities” which helped her look within to find her own Truth. She knew from a very young age the power of positive thinking and that in a world of chaos there was always peace and light within if we could access it.
Jamie learned the power of our thoughts and feelings manifest our reality during a difficult battle with infertility. She experienced her first of many manifestations and adopted a baby locally in only 5 months. She then conceived and has 2 beautiful girls who are 8 months apart. Camryn Faith is 12 and has Autism. She is the most joyous, loving child who rarely suffers in her world. She lives in the moment, goes with the flow of life, and accepts changes along the way. Jordyn Hope is 11 and is a wise, spiritual, old soul who shares her infinite intelligence with her Mom often. She is an incredible dancer!
Jamie is a pediatric Occupational Therapist and loves what she does! She received her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification in 2014 and now integrates yoga as well as her other holistic modalities in her student’s lives. She also opened her own side business, Back to Basics Therapy in 2019. Jamie has been on a learning journey and feels it is time to give back.

JazzBuffalo is excited to present 3 times Grammy® Nominee for Best Latin Jazz Album, Jane Bunnett, and Maqueque. In the past few years, the groundbreaking all-women band, Jane Bunnett and Maqueque have forged a path in presented the sounds of Afro-Cuban and Latin Jazz to the world. The band consists of an ensemble of Cuban female performers creating a vibrant sound made magical by the soprano saxophone of Jane Bunnett.

The ensemble received a Grammy® for their latest highly-acclaimed album, Oddara. In September of 2019, Jane Bunnett and Maqueque will release a new album. Special guest on the upcoming album is Nikki Brown, the Sacred Steel Guitar sensation.

For this special concert, Jane Bunnett and Maqueque will present Latin Christmas, which will also feature an appearance by Nikki Brown. The ensemble will consist of some of the best female Cuban jazz artists assembled here in the US and in Canada. Maqueque’s stellar rhythm section features founding members Dánae Olano, Celia Jiménez, and Yissy García. They’re joined by two recent additions, Mary Paz and Melvis Santa, who gained attention as both a musician and actor since her work in the 2012 anthology film 7 Days in Havana. More than a band, Maqueque is the most visible manifestation of a movement that’s rewriting outdated thinking about the Cuban music scene.

A unique Christmas presentation for the whole family not to be missed! Special pricing for students and children 12 years old and under! Two shows: 3 pm and 7 pm!

More on Jane Bunnett and Maqueque:

One of the finest soprano saxophonists in jazz, Jane Bunnett originally studied classical piano but tendonitis cut short that career. After seeing the Charles Mingus group in San Francisco, Bunnett was inspired to play advanced jazz. On soprano, she recalls Steve Lacy a bit (whom she studied with), while her flute playing is quite distinctive. Bunnett has always had major players on her records: in addition to her husband, trumpeter Larry Cramer, pianist Don Pullen had been a fixture on her records; her 1988 debut for Dark Light also featured Dewey Redman; and she utilized Sheila Jordan and Jeanne Lee. Her adventurous 1991 effort, Spirits of Havana, found her playing with many of Cuba’s top jazz musicians. After moving to Paris in the mid-’90s, Bunnett continued to explore Afro-Cuban jazz, releasing several critically acclaimed discs for Blue Note, including Chamalongo, Ritmo Soul, and Alma de Santiago.

In 2002, Bunnett took a brief sabbatical from Afro-Cuban music and released Spirituals Dedications, highlighting her interest in both traditional gospel and modern compositions with spiritual themes by Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Stanley Cowell, and Charles Mingus. The following year, she took home Juno and Grammy awards for her album Cuban Odyssey. She then collaborated with the Penderecki String Quartet for 2004’s Red Dragonfly (aka Tombo) and joined the Afro-Cuban/Haitian ten-voice a cappella choir Grupo Vocal Desandann for 2006’s Embracing Voices.

In 2011, Bunnett paired with Cuban pianist Hilario Durán for Cuban Rhapsody. She then collaborated on two albums with the all-female Cuban jazz sextet Maqueque: 2014’s Jane Bunnett Maqueque and 2016’s Oddara. ~ Scott Yanow

In this session, we introduce participants to our easy-to-use 3D printers, the M3D micros. These little printers use brightly colored corn-based plastics great for printing small personalized objects.

Come make something special for someone dear or create a design you’ve been thinking about prototyping. Asparagus earrings; heart cufflinks; a pin in the shape of a cat; a bookmark with a company logo — we’ve seen these projects and more made here in a single learning session in our TechLab (but printing takes a while — pick up you printed object the next day or any time before the 20th)!

Throughout this course, you will learn how to expand and deepen messages received from spirit that are filled with accuracy, evidence, empowerment and healing.

We will meet the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:30pm. Often the most important learning takes place in between classes, therefore there will be some homework assignments. This program includes one-on-one mentoring with Angie and opportunities for mini message days open to the public for practice. Level 1 is from October 8th until end of February. Level 2 starts in March and goes through the end of June.

HERE IS THE FLYER WITH DATES & INFO:

Levels may be taken by anyone even if they aren’t seeking certification, however you must sign up for a complete level. Classes within levels aren’t offered separately. Are you a ceramics artist and need a place to work? If so, we have the place for you. Every wednesday evening from 6PM-10PM we have our ceramic studio open to the public for a small fee. This Fee comes with 10lbs of clay and 4 hours of time on the wheel. All artists must be able to throw on a wheel already. There will be one instructor on site working but they will not be there for personal instruction but to answer and questions you might have. All work will be held on QCFA premises for you so that you can return to trim, fire and glaze your pieces. All firing, storage and glazes are included in the price. More clay is available on site for $1.00 per pound.

Mirabo Press is thrilled to be hosting a residency for Korean American artist Maria Chang from December 8th–20th, 2019.

Maria Chang grew up between the United States and South Korea, moving to Korea after high school to study fine art at Hongik University. Her work describes the breakdown and reconstruction of objects perceived through her own blurry vision—a result of losing focus in her right eye. Chang’s artwork has been shown across South Korea and in the United States. She is currently working as a Gana Atelier Resident Artist with Gana Art, one of the first major art galleries established in South Korea in 1983.

Please join us for Maria Chang’s exhibition, featuring paintings, sculptures, and the prints made with the Mirabo Press team throughout her residency here. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, December 19th from 5:30–9:00PM.

About Mirabo Press:
Mirabo Press is a printmaking studio founded by Bob Fleming, Rachel Shelton, and Mizin Shin. We offer limited edition printmaking by contract to individuals and galleries, working to expand the local art scene by collaborating with both regional and national artists. These collaborative opportunities allow for advancement of the medium and we are happy to work with artists both inexperienced and well versed in print media.

Equipped for intaglio, monotype, relief, and screen printing, Mirabo Press also provides educational and community programming. Workshops for small groups designed to give individual attention cover a range of processes, and local educational institutions are welcome to bring students to the studio to learn about this democratic and socially formative medium.
