Event Details

Pulp/fictions features WNY artists and WNYBAC members who have spent the past year and a half experimenting with the Thai mulberry fiber known as Kozo. Building on their group exhibition last fall, the group again met regularly to process the fiber from its raw state into the various works on exhibit. This time around, the artists took a more structural and sculptural approach with the kozo, a very durable material.

From fiber artists to printmakers, book binders to photographers, this exhibit showcases the versatility of the Thai Kozo fiber, and the boundless imagination of the artists.

Artists include: Deb Eck, Linda Collignon, Bob Collignon, Jozef Bajus, Ani Hoover, Billy Huggins, Bonnie Morrisey, Mizin Shin, Kate Stapleton-Parzych, Peter Sowiski, and Janna Willoughby-Lohr.

Directed by David Oliver.

At a rural fishing Lodge, Froggy, a British demolition expert, has brought along a pathologically shy young man named Charlie who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. He tells everyone that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English. Once alone the fun really begins, as Charlie overhears more than he should—the evil plans of a sinister, two-faced minister and his redneck associate; the fact that the minister’s pretty fiancée is pregnant; and many other revelations made with the thought that Charlie doesn’t understand a word being said. All of that sets up the wildly funny climax in which things go uproariously awry for the “bad guys,” and the “good guys” emerge triumphant.

Event Details

Please join us for this precious, rare opportunity to learn the powerful wealth practices of Black Dzambhala and White Ganapati and receive their transmissions. Both of these practices are powerful to overcoming obstacles to wealth. Black Dzambhala excels at transforming mental or health obstacles to wealth and is also used in cases where there is extreme need or desperation. This practice opens our hearts and minds when we are stuck or fixed mentally, physically or spiritually. The great remover of obstacles, White Ganapati, uses peaceful means, compassion, joyful play and creativity to remove negative mental constructs. Wealth comes in many forms, including health, prosperity, resources and opportunity. This may show up in forms we do not expect, such as opportunities to work with a great teacher or mentor, new career opportunities, renewed connections with loved ones or friends, a shift in a chronic or severe health issue. The list is endless. Above all, these practices assist us in blossoming the compassionate lotus at our hearts and sharpening the true diamond nature of our wisdom minds. These sadhanas are done for oneself as well as to benefit other beings.

LEWISTION COMMUNITY LIONS HOST A “STRIDES” DIABETES AWARENESS & 5K RUN/WALK

Village of Lewiston Firehall # 1 – On April 29, 2018 members of the Lewiston Community Lions Club, along with their friends and families, will run and walk in the Strides Diabetes Awareness and 5K Run/Walk.

The Diabetes Awareness and Diabetes Screenings will begin at 10:00 AM and go until 5:00 PM. Registration for the run will begin at 8:00 AM and the race will begin at 9:00 AM. Two hundred people are expected to participate. Health screenings and information from local companies will be available to the public free-of-charge inside the firehall. Refreshments also available.

“There’s still time to gather your family, friends and neighbors to participate in the Strides event. This is an enjoyable way for the community to join together in the fight against diabetes. Contact the Lewiston Community Lions Club at 716-807-2409. In addition, we will be able to take your registration at the fire hall any time before 9:00 AM” said Club President Lion Lynn Bahringer.

Lions all over the world organize Strides events in their communities to heighten awareness of diabetes and its complications and to provide information on preventing and managing the disease. These events promote regular, healthy exercise and include participants of all ages.

Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with nearly 1.3 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas around the world. Since 1917, Lions have aided the blind and visually impaired and made a strong commitment to community service and serving youth throughout the world. Event Details

Westminster Presbyterian Church presents Bach’s Cantata BWV 147, Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben (Heart and mouth and deed and life) in morning worship on Sunday, April 29, 10:30 AM, in the church Sanctuary, located at 724 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, NY. The Sunday sermon by Rev. Dr. Thomas Yorty is titled “Closing the Gaps: God’s Growing Flock of Sheep.”

The cantata will be presented by the chamber orchestra, the Westminster Schola, and four soloists. Movements will be played throughout the worship service, just as the piece would have been presented in Bach’s day.

Bach composed more than 300 cantatas, of which some 200 exist today. This cantata opens with an exuberant orchestral section leading directly into the chorus which calls for listeners to “bear witness to Christ.” There are four arias, one for each soloist.

Under the direction of Garrett Martin, Organist and Choirmaster, the Westminster Choirs present extensive sacred music programming each year, considered to be among the finest in Western New York.
