Now here’s something that you don’t see everyday – a local clothing retailer cross-dressing its mannequins in the display window. While the display is very clever and sends a message that the store is ‘open’ and supports this weekend’s Pride activities, there is an even more subtle component of the display that a lot more stores in the area share, and that’s the ‘Open’ sign. The ‘Open’ sign at Urban Threads might not have been intended to amplify the cross dressing theme, but it certainly did. And after the display comes down, the message that Urban is ‘open’ to gay rights will remain.
