Here’s a chance to attend an upcoming address being made by University at Buffalo President John B. Simpson. The topic? How University at Buffalo will move forward with its “goal of becoming one of the nationis leading research universities.” Some of UB 2020’s efforts moving forward will be focused on how to better interact with the community (City of Buffalo). What role will University at Buffalo play in the continued revitalization efforts of our city? What is in store for the University District? Is it true that “this master planning effort will be the first such effort since the North Campus was built in the 1970s”?
Obviously the current location of the university campus in Amherst has left many Buffalonians skeptical about the university’s intentions as far as becoming an integral part of the downtown community. Yet there have been glimmers of hope, for example, the Jacobs Executive Development Center, Research Institute on Addictions, Ira Ross Eye Institute, Educational Opportunity Center and the New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences.
Come hear the address Thursday, September 28th at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery 7:30 AM coffee – 8:15 AM remarks. Availability is limited to the first 350 responses. RSVP dates have been extended. “This is the first time in any one can recall that any UB president has given such an address to the community. President Simpson will take questions after his remarks, and the event is open and on the record.” Register here.
