People that love and care for animals are a special breed indeed.
The Pet Emergency Fund, begun in 1999, is a not-for-profit organization aiding pet owners in need of financial assistance in emergency situations. PEF member Mary VandenBergh has created a unique way to help in PEFis funding and the wonderful work they do.
Mary is the creator of iPet Tribute Garden Monument Stones,i which she calls a itribute to living pets & a loving monument to those deceased.i
Mary personally produces these lovely concrete garden stepping stones that are shaped like a big paw print. They can be individually inscribed for cats or dogs (a favorite inscription being iYouive left paw prints on my hearti) and can be further personalized with an actual photo of your pet. The price range for the Tribute Stones is $15-$25 with ALL proceeds going to fund the PEF. They are available at Animal Outfitters, The Summer St. Cat Clinic and many veterinarian offices throughout WNY.
Each year, the Pet Emergency Fund in conjunction with UB School of Medicine, also features a fall lecture series called iMini Vet Schooli which offers 5 week sessions of 2 hour classes presented by veterinary specialists. They are designed for lay people interested in animals and pet lovers alike. The classes focus on various topics such as chronic diseases and organ systems and are taught by some of UB’s finest faculty members. Special guest lecturers have included Dr. Frank Ridgley from the Buffalo Zoo and Animal Planetis Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald. Registration info is available at (716) 829-2196 or www.smbs.buffalo.edu/minimed
