Thanks to the folks at The Barrel Factory for passing along some pertinent news from Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) church that is in need of funds to cover the costs of crucial renovations that are already underway.
“Our Lady of Perpetual Help – Roman Catholic Church: Located at 115 O’Connell Ave. (originally Sandusky St.) in the Old First Ward. It’s a Gothic Style beauty created from Medina Sandstone – designed by one of my favorites, Williams Lansing and his partner Beierl. Circa 1897-1900.” – Mass Mob
It was recently learned that there is structural damage to the church, and while insurance will go a long way to getting OLPH back on track, there is a $60,000 gap that needs to be addressed. It is up to the parish and the community to raise the funds, thus ensuring that the church stays open. At this point the church is considering different ways to raise the funds, from community dinners to a bazaar to a crowdfunding campaign. In the meantime, anyone can make a tax deductible donation to the OLPH Restoration Fund. You can learn more about the plight of OLPH on Facebook.
If you would rather come to see the church in person, and learn more about the restoration efforts, consider attending the annual bazaar on Saturday November 8, 2014 from noon to 6pm. The event will include booths, raffles and food. This is the type of fundraising that appeals to curiosity seekers, collectors, historians and architectural buffs.
