At first glance it seems like an odd combination: blues, barbecue and… books? You’d probably think “bikes” or “beer” well before associating literary masterpieces with Memphis-style pulled pork and B.B. King.
The Buffalo Book Fair doesn’t care about that, though- they are betting that you will be intrigued by the opportunity to mingle and personally interact with celebrity authors while munching on a full menu catered by Fables Café and listening to Sonny Mayo & the Delta Drivers blues band.
There will be notable authors in attendance, as well: some with Buffalo ties such as Ishmael Reed, Fred Bonisch and Mark Goldman, and others (Cora Daniels, Sofia Quintero, Quincy Troupe) whose works span a myriad of genres.
The event takes place on the Central Library’s outdoor terrace and within its main concourse. The mouth watering menu includes roasted potato salad, Carolina coleslaw, Niagara sweet corn, margarita marinated char-grilled chicken, slow smoked Memphis-style pulled pork, and freshly baked rolls. All of the food is being prepared by the library’s own fabulous Fables Cafe, who’s chef and part-owner Jason knows his barbecue after having spent a good amount of time in New Orleans. In addition to the food, which is included in the cost of the ticket, there will be a cash bar with beer, wine and soda.
Tickets are $30 and may be purchased online. Proceeds benefit the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library and Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo and Erie County.
