A new creative pop-up concept is getting ready to open in the University District. Vivid Buffalo is the brainchild of art advocate Jeremy Miklas. On Sunday, February 10, Miklas will be hosting an Open House of sorts, at Vivid Buffalo, which will be a space dedicated to artists who want to test the market by setting up a vendor space, paying rent by the day, the week, the month, etc. The space functions as a gallery as well as a collaborative pop-up space, but it also accommodates a wide array of events, activities, and functions, such as a Henna Pop-Up for Valentine’s Day (hosted by the Cosmic Wanderer Collective) In order to find out what was driving Miklas to create the space, I asked him how he came up with the Vivid Buffalo concept.
“I worked at Pearl Street Grill and Brewery and RiverWorks for the past 14 years as art and tech director,” said Miklas. “I have been inspired greatly by owner Earl Ketry and his son Josh. As an artist I have an itch to help other artists aspire and grow. I am renting a space that can provide retail, consignment, and workshops for various creative themes, such as paint nights, yoga and kombucha tastings. We want to help give the University Heights a positive, fun and creative identity. I have a Bachelor in Fine Arts from UB and grew up in this very community. It means a lot to me and my family. Now we are setting off to get noticed and grow the business and our network. Our current concept will launch February 10 – Vivid Valentine’s Pop Up Party, which is a Pop Up Buffalo event, where artist can pay a very small fee to rent a pop up table daily, weekly or monthly. Now they can sell and create in a public location in a retail setting where they can truly get noticed. With such a growth spurt in business development we want to start developing local arts initiatives and opportunities for the tourism boom and the local community alike.”
Artists (and everyone else) attending Vivid Valentine’s Pop Up Party will get a chance to check out the space, interact with a number of vendors who have already signed up to display their works, and learn about the rest of the offerings.
“Create your own pop up shop or come down to meet the artists who are at Vivid Buffalo…” said Miklas.
Stay tuned for more great things coming from Vivid Buffalo in days, months, and hopefully years to come!
