The Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Erie County Master Gardeners’ 2017 Plant Sale is now underway. The plant sale is being held at First Presbyterian Church, One Symphony Circle. The sale is wrapping up today at 3pm, but continues on Saturday, May 27 from 8:30am to 2pm. Plants being sold by CCE Erie Master Gardener volunteers include sun and shade perennials, natives, herbs, annuals, shrubs and vegetables. Other plants have been donated by horticultural businesses.
CCE Erie Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand while the sale is underway, to guide people towards the perfect purchase, and to discuss the different types of plants available. Master gardeners will also be taking gardeners’ soil samples*, as part of a Soil Clinic, to measure pH levels ($2.00 per sample). Funds raised over the course of these two days will be directed towards CCE Erie Master Gardener outreach programs throughout the area.
This is a highly anticipated annual plant sale, and many people say that it is not to be missed. Friday morning, there was a line already formed before the sale even opened. The plant prices are beyond reasonable and they are beyond healthy. The best part is the advice that you get upon purchasing a plant. There are tons of Master Gardeners running around with red CCE aprons, and they are just looking to strike up a conversation.
*Prior to attending, check the CCE Erie website (below) for instructions on collecting a soil sample.
