Not to be outdone by the Burchfield Penney and the Darwin Martin House, the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site is undergoing an expansion of its own. The National Park Service along with the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site Foundation are building a new addition to the Wilcox House at 641 Delaware Avenue. The new carriage house will provide space for a new gift shop, restroom and elevator as well as tour, exhibit, program and research space.

A two-story Delaware Avenue office building is getting a new face and a third story. The Buffalo Planning Board approved renovation plans for 334 Delaware Avenue at this morning’s meeting. Owner 120 W. Tupper Street Inc. is undertaking the $1.2 million project. The bland building will get a new look and a glass third-floor addition.

There was one local Kohl’s store unmobbed by stampeding bargain seekers yesterday. Instead, it was full of construction workers. Benderson Development was trying to get the new Kohl’s store at 2232 Delaware Avenue open before the holiday shopping season. But with final approvals this summer, the aggressive schedule was not feasible. The 88,000 sq.ft. store is expected to debut in April.

Twelve apartments will be created at the White’s Livery site at 428 Jersey Street under draft plans by developer Sam Savarino. The $3.4 million project is a victory for neighborhood residents who stepped in to stop an emergency demolition by the City after bricks started cascading from the neglected property earlier this year. After court hearings and a commitment to the site by Savarino, the City agreed to save the front and rear facades and distinctive tower of the circa-1889 structure.
