Last night was the opening night for Shakespeare in Delaware Park. While the action of the play down on Shakespeare Hill was cut short by the rain, there was plenty of action on the pergola at the Rose Garden above. It was enchanting to watch the Nickel City Fencers, clad in white jackets, parry between the white columns of the pergola against the rosy backdrop. The club was there to welcome the opening night of Shakespeare’s 31st summer season. Usually, Nickel City Fencers can be found honing their skills at St. John’s Grace Episcopal Church at Colonial Circle.

Saturday marks the 10th anniversary of Brush Up Buffalo – a not-for-profit organization committed to beautifying Buffalo neighborhoods by gathering teams of volunteers to paint the exteriors of low-income homeowner’s homes.
