The welcoming committee at Buffalo State College will be rolling out the red carpet and waving flags this Sunday. 17 students from China will be arriving at the college to study for the upcoming year. The students are coming from the Sichuan Province, which many of you may recall was severely damaged by the recent earthquake. For all of the students, this will be their first time in the United States. In an effort to keep the Buffalo Niagara International Airport and upstate economy from taking a hit, Assemblymember Sam Hoyt is asking the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia to stop FAA wildcat auctions of air slots at Newark Liberty Airport. Industry Estimates show that there could be as much as a 33 percent reduction in service to upstate cities, reducing air traffic and increasing travel prices. More from the Daily News here. The Can Am Invitational is this Sunday, August 17th, so make sure your bike is in good working order. Registration is still open for cyclists who can pedal either 35 miles, 62 miles, or 100 miles. Hosted by the Niagara Frontier Bicycle Club, this three-distance ride will take bicyclists on tours across the US and Canada, except for the 35 mile ride, which stays inside the US.
