This past Sunday, Artpark hosted the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s final performance of their “BPO Summerfest” series. The Grammy-winning group performed hits from the silver screen, including selections from “Harry Potter,” “Indiana Jones” and “Star Wars.” It was a fantastic performance! To be fair, like many other audience members, I only saw the second half of the show because traffic on Grand Island was backed up for more than an hour, but still – It was a stellar show. Now, the BPO can look forward to their 2009-2010 season, which kicks off on October 3rd with an Opening Night Gala and the…

The second year of the celebration of America’s Independence at the Erie Canal Harbor Central Wharf was yet again a wonderful success. The Color Guard unfolded the Stars and Stripes in a very deliberate fashion following a very regimented method. Finally our flag was unfurled for all to see, and to a standing ovation at that. Buffalo fashions this year for the 4th of July featured lots of skirts combined with jeans (the wind coming off of Lake Erie made it a bit chilly) plus red, white and blue jackets and sunglasses. I remember last year, when Independence Day featured the…

On a night where there were half a dozen places in Buffalo to hear really outstanding music, including the kick-off to Buffalo Rocks the Harbor, I chose the 2nd floor back patio of the Pearl Street Grill to hear an free concert featuring the outstanding foursome from Dublin, Ireland called Stand. It was quite a different experience from the last time I was there. Although the crowd again was a who’s who of the local Buffalo…

The Erie Cattaraugus Rail Trail, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the abandoned 27-mile Buffalo-Pittsburgh rail corridor and transforming it into a multi-purpose recreational trail. The trail would stretch from Orchard Park to West Valley, N.Y., thus connecting Orchard Park and East Aurora all the way to Cattaraugus County. If in the future, you need some kind of transport along that corridor,…
