Ellicott Street is certainly shaping up nicely these days. With projects like the IS Lofts, Ellicott Lofts and the Washington Market there can be no doubt that the up-and-coming Ellicott Commons will fit right in. Developer Rocco Termini, in his capacity as Director of Development for Burke Homes LLC, has another winner on his hands with this one. The Commons will be nicely situated within walking distance of a market, the theater district, the Market Arcade, Chippewa, Spot Coffee, the Metro Rail and on-ramps. Click on image to enlarge. While at the Amherst Street Festival I happened to bump into a group of folks from the Buffalo Hookbill Association. They were handling a number of different birds while the crowd looked on, and the birds were hamming it up for the audience. One of the parrots was performing a series of tricks on its own, which included waving to the people while shrieking out random words at the top of its lungs. The group is on a mission to teach people about these wonderful creatures, and members are in constant contact with other groups around the world. There are…

View Slideshow Last Saturday I was on my way over to Brush Up Buffalo and decided to take the Bidwell Parkway Route to get to my destination. Before I go any further I would like you to click on the slide show link featured above. OK, imagine Bidwell Parkway packed with booths that were designed by young kids. George Richert of Channel 4 called me yesterday to ask what I thought of the recent news regarding our population loss. He was mostly curious as to what I thought about the young citizens of Buffalo vacating the region at such an alarming rate. He asked if there was a time and place that we could conduct an interview, and I told him, “Yes, as a matter of fact I am heading over to Delaware Park to play a game of Ultimate Frisbee and if you want to meet up, I am sure that one or two of the 80+…

The following is a comment from Transplant in response to a warped thread following Molly A’s post on the waterfront. BRO would like to hear some of your thoughts regarding the points that Transplant brings up. Is it as easy as it sounds? Is Transplant on the right path? Be forewarned, any vulgar language will be stricken from the record. If the city is serious about fixing up the waterfront….here it is…. First let’s be realistic, the 190 isn’t going anywhere. But it doesn’t have to be the eyesore that it is. Trees in the middle and on either side…

The Empire Grill is finally taking shape. It has been a long two years since the restaurant’s initial groundbreaking took place, but after speaking with owner, Nick Kotrides, earlier today, I can see why there has been such a lag-time. While the building’s exterior is heading towards completion, the interior is still a spider-web of wires and exposed hardware. That is why Nick wanted BRO viewers to ‘experience’ the guts of the operation. The skeletal makeup of Empire is astounding. The elaborate design is breathtaking… and the interior aesthetic components have not even been introduced yet. What has been introduced…
