April 22 – May 22. She Stoops to Conquer, by Oliver Goldsmith, is currently playing at the Irish Classical Theater. The play guest stars a local Buffalo favorite, Mary Ramsey, on fiddle. Maybe if we are lucky, there might be a John & Mary sighting downtown in the coming weeks. We’ll keep ya posted.
I just bumped into Roxanne Amico from Spiritmorph Studio. She has a small showing of her mixed media collages @ Mid City Office Furniture in the Tri-Main Building. And she was just featured in the last issue of Artvoice as the artist of the week. Cool stuff.
COMING UP: Thursday April 28, 2005 I plan on seeing the flamenco dancer & Mir Ali’s group this Thursday at Nietzche’s promptly at 8pm. Although it’s $8 the ambience and intimacy of an Allentown bar has a lot of appeal. This way I can flirt & knock a few back with them after the show as well. WARNING: do NOT bring a date that you are “on the fence” about. Flamenco gyrations and Gypsy rhythms have never been considered a very effective form of birth control- if ya know what I mean! See ya there! Cow-Girl
Here is a pretty cool photo of a candle light vigil in downtown Buffalo commemorating 9/11. I’ll tell you, when it comes to a city with heart, you won’t find another one out there that can hold a candle to Buffalo. This vigil was held in Niagara Square; photo taken atop Buffalo’s own City Hall. As a matter of fact, if you have never been to the observation deck at the top of City Hall, it really is worth a visit. And bring a camera.
Taken on a night with a beautiful crescent moon. Snapped it while grilling in a backyard (just off Elmwood Avenue.)
Jamie Arnold & Janet Fowler make the most of a Garden Walk grant. This little garden makes a nice addition to the new playground recently built next to Lafayette Presbyterian Church. Keep posted for another exciting addition to that corner in the next issue of Buffalo Rising!
Morning Glory Cafe, one of the West Side’s best eateries just set up a great little patio. Located next to D’Youville College on Porter Ave., this joint is serving up some really great eats… outdoors.
COMING UP:Sunday May 1, 2005 Did you know it cost Buffalo Greyhound Adoption on average over $400.00 for each Greyhound rescued! There is a spaghettii dinner and Chinese auction Sunday May 1st from 12-5 @ The Buffalo Zoo Children’s Resource Center. See you there.
If you haven’t seen it yet, then now is the time. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Blue Sky Mausoleum is a sight to behold. Located on a rise between two ponds in Buffalo’s 269 acre Forest Lawn Cemetary, this is truly a sanctuary within the the city. Built just recently, the mausoleum is another notch in Buffalo’s architecture portfolio.
