This morning I took my car to Delta Sonic on Main Street for a wash and inside detail, a 45-minute event. I often think Delta Sonic is a microcosm of the world where you can observe the most mundane errands like grocery shopping, picking up the paper and filling up on gas to the most extreme heartaches like poverty, addiction and despair. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the country, especially in the amount of scholarships available. One of the biggest areas that offers lacrosse at a young age in the school systems is central and upstate new york. It offers student athletes opportunity to compete at a high level, gain scholarships other than football, basketball, or baseball. Lacrosse also teaches the kids about being a good citizen. It is a great sport to play. A group of area athletes developed the organization called City Lacrosse. Roaming Buffaloes embarked on their first ever whitewater rafting trip to Lansing, WV, home of the New River and the infamous Gauley River–one of the top three rafting rivers in the country, and one of the top seven in the world. Twenty-five Buffalonians took over Ray’s Campground in Hico, WV–just outside of Lansing–for a weekend of rafting, camping, paintball, ziplining, and camaraderie. The demolition of Freddie’s Donuts at 1655 Main Street in Midtown Buffalo is well underway. An application to demolish the one-story building was submitted to the City in March. See Post The Preservation Board signed-off on the demo in April. A downtown housing project targeting students is moving forward. Jake Schneider purchased 136 North Division Street on May 1 for $1.85 million. The deal was brokered by Hunt Commercial’s Chris Malachowski. Schneider will convert the 100-year-old Alling & Cory building into a 90-apartment/dorm complex. The Erie County Industrial Development Agency approved incentives for the $16.6 million project in April. The 109,000 square foot building was purchased by AC Lofts LLC, headed by Schneider, a well respected architect and developer. Preliminary work on the building is underway with hopes of welcoming its first tenants in late summer 2010. The project is geared towards students who are enrolled at the downtown campus of…
