Brandon Schlia is a musician, music instructor, and sometimes BR music writer. He recently launched a new teaching endeavor he calls Alternative Sonic Instruction. Brandon’s idea is to guide a musician by their predilections and then he helps their hands to go where their ears are most pleased. So, music is coaxed out as much as it’s taught. It blows music theory to the wayside as a step further down the road, if at all. Brandon fields questions below from a previous non-believer, but his answers make sense – in theory for now. The Northwest corner of Hertel and Parker is seeing new life, and it’s all due to one local family’s investment into their own much-loved neighborhood. It all started two years ago when John Daly and his wife Ruthanne were on a walk around North Buffalo. I walked all over the West Side during the Garden Walk Buffalo weekend, taking pictures of new construction and of houses that were in the process of being rehabbed or had recently been rehabbed. One of the new construction sites that I found very appealing was the new wing of the Herman Badillio School on Carolina Street that is nearing completion. The new addition comprises 43,285 square feet. The original portion of the school, located at 300 South Elmwood and approximately 71,600 square feet, has been completely refurbished as well, as part of the city’s overall 10-year School Construction Project.…
