An interactive technology site that will allow community members to share, read and upload personal histories of unsung community builders among the African-American populace is coming to the Merriweather Library. In an effort to staunch housing foreclosures in the cities that it serves, the Erie County Legislature’s task force on distressed properties is forming their plan of attack. Western New York Law Center (WNYLC) attorney and coordinator of Buffalo’s Anti-flipping Task Force Kathleen Lynch gave a presentation that painted a bleak picture on the cusp of the City of Buffalo’s Housing Auction to be held from October 20 through 22. This little book of short stories–written by fifth-graders in the buffalo Public Schools in 1931–fell into the hands of Los Angeles resident Buz Carter, via his sister. “After my sister’s father-in-law passed away, they were going through his things, and this little book ended up in the ‘toss’ pile,” Carter said. “The more I Googled references in the book, I came to understand that this was made in Buffalo. Plans were unveiled Friday for a linear park and public space along Ellicott Street within the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. According to BNMC Chairman of the Board of Directors William Joyce, the park will run from Goodell to Best Streets and will serve as a public space for employees, patients and visitors of the medical campus. Plans include public art, bicycle racks and custom seating, along with a change to 2-way traffic on Ellicott Street.
