In a Buffalo News editorial entitled “Council throws a block,” the OpEd piece contends that the landmark designation of 771 Busti “could delay a project important to the city.” That would signal that the News editorial board has the new bridge and the truck plaza mixed up in their minds, while preservationists and Columbus Park-Prospect Hill residents insist that they are two separate projects. One involves a new bridge, the other, a lot of concrete – in a neighborhood that was long-established, and would still be in good condition, had the PBA not purchased several homes, and allowed them to rot for years.…

This week on the Buffalo Rising Roundtable, WBFO News Director Mark Scott and I were in Studio B all on our own to talk about the past week’s events. (The podcast is the entire 20 – 30 minute show as opposed to the 5 minutes WBFO broadcasts, so give it a listen.)On the first three subjects: the landmarking of 771 Busti, the Olmsted Parks Conservancy’s future role in park maintenance, and Buffalo ReUse’s new board of directors, I commented that we could call this the “Up in the Air” segment of Buffalo Rising’s Roundtable because much remains to be seen. We all know Thurman Thomas is going to be at BECHS tonight, talking football. We also know where his 8 1/2 foot, half-ton sculpture is. Thurman went north to Welland, when some rather young, inebriated, very strong…and now very scared Canadian teenagers made off with the statue in the back of their pick-up truck. They even declared it at the Peace Bridge, much…
