It was a busy and well-attended organizer’s meeting tonight at Staples’ of Allentown. Fresh on the heels of an Artie Award, Lead Scheduling Dude Kurt Schneiderman Publicity Dude Ron Ehmke and Treasury Dude Scott Kurchak met with a team of approximately 20 performers and organizers, and outlined upcoming meetings, events, and positions still needing to be filled. The festival itself will be held from July 26 through August 5, 2007 at various locations throughout Allentown. Renowned African-Canadian Artist David Kibuuka will be having a showing at Gallery 51 which will remain on display until July 21st, 2007. Kibuuka is in the African Modernist school, which borrows techniques from 19th and 20th century European artists, blending them with traditional African imagery to create a wholly vibrant and unique form. Kibuuka is notably internationally famous for his work as the founder of Modern Batik Art Painting where he introduced the Fragmentation technique to traditional Batik Art, which uses mosaics of color and form to create rich, multifaceted images. Talk about an institution! The Locust Street Neighborhood Art Classes is holding its 47th Annual Art Show, opening on Sunday, June 3, from 2-5 PM. The results are in for the Canisuis College Digital Media Festival awards, which garnered 41entrants in three categories – Still Images, Web Design and Animation and Video. Shown is the winner of the Still Imagery category, Steve Leonard, with a stationery design for Adio Footwear. Entries were judged on design quality (including visual appeal, balance, use of color/contrast, and layout), creative quality (including imaginative and competent use of medium, and originality of concept.
