In celebration of Buffalo Bike month, Lafayette Presbyterian Church (Lafayette and Elmwood) will be hosting a “Blessing of the Bicycles” this Sunday, May 18, at 11am. It will be followed by a group ride to the waterfront. Bicycles and riders of every size, shape, and belief will be welcomed into the church building for some brief prayers and a blessing pronounced over each bike.  As the church is under construction, please enter the church via the glass doors on Lafayette Avenue. Our Church is about to undergo a major renovation (see here) and we have over 60 years of accumulated stuff. So on April 6, from 9am to 1pm, we’ll have our doors open, and we will give away our stuff. Lafayette Church will host a concert of The Handbell Choir of Wiedensahl, Germany on Tuesday, March 19 at 7pm. The Handbell Choir of Wiedensahl is one of the biggest and most active of the only 25 bellchoirs in Germany. The ringers perform on 66 handbells and 61 handchimes, both made by Schulmerich Bells of Pennsylvania. The home of the choir is a small village in North Germany near Hanover. Since 1987 the ringers have performed on numerous German handbell festivals and concerts that took them to all parts of the country. The choir has toured the USA (2003) and South Africa (2006).…

The Donovan Building is getting its new skin. Construction crews took the former state office building down to its structural steel and have added ‘bump outs’ on the formerly flush square building. Framework for a new glass and brick façade is going up. Benderson Development is spearheading the One Canalside project which will include a mix of retail, office and hotel uses.Phillips Lytle LLP will be the building’s anchor tenant, occupying 85,000 square feet of space on the top four floors of the 160,000-square-foot structure.
