The amount of millennials purchasing and viewing houses for sale in Buffalo has been increasing over the past few years. Buffalo also has one of the highest millennial purchase request rates for metro areas along with Minneapolis and San Jose. “Minneapolis, Buffalo, and San Jose, Calif. are the metros where millennials make up the largest percentage of purchase requests. In Minneapolis, 56.2% of purchase requests came from millennials. In Buffalo, N.Y. and San Jose, Calif., the numbers are 56.1% and 55.8%, respectively,” according to Lending Tree. Humble Braggers, a local synth pop band, released their latest single “I’ll Try” last Thursday and are donating 100 percent of the profits to the NAACP. The profits are going specifically to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund which fights for racial justice through litigation. “Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans,” according to the NAACP LDF website. Griselda Records, local rap collective and record label, was nominated for a BET award for “Best Group” this past Monday. Griselda’s nomination comes after years of major releases such as their critically acclaimed album WWCD which was released in 2019 and their EP, Don’t Get Scared Now from 2016. The Skeptics, an alternative band from Western New York, re-released their full length CD, Be Satisfied, late last month. The re-release came a few weeks after the CD’s 25th anniversary and features the original members of the band.  According to skepticsongs.com, “The group’s debut CD features Tom Mullen on lead vocals and guitar, Mark Buckley on bass, Michael ‘Hairy’ Harrier on lead guitar and vocals, and Tim Kelly on drums.” Be Satisfied was the band’s debut and first major success of their careers because it had made several music charts and was played at major radio stations across the country.…

Transportation is a barrier for many employment opportunities especially in Buffalo. Cars make it easier for people to commute to work and access their jobs especially in a town that has few major employment centers. “Of the five major employment centers in Erie County, only one is located within the City of Buffalo,”according to data from PPG Buffalo, a think tank which seeks to create a just Buffalo through research. Buffalo is on track to enter Phase 3 of the state’s reopening plan, and with that comes more business openings in the next few weeks (at earliest June 16).
