Sometimes the authors at Buffalo Rising work on collaborative efforts in order to cover various events and stories. These posts can not be attributed to one single author, as it is a combined effort. Often times a formation of a post gets started by one writer and passed along to one or more writers before completion. At times there are author attributions at the end of one of these posts. Other times, “Buffalo Rising” is simply offered up as the creator of the article. In either case, the writing is original to Buffalo Rising.

In January, Evergreen Health and CAS announced the purchase of land at the intersection of Kensington and Bailey Avenue to serve as the future home of a new healthcare facility. Today they are showing off the preliminary design for the new building which will replace an existing facility at 3297 Bailey Avenue. A house at 325 Connecticut would be demolished but the street would gain an outdoor patio along with a commercial space and an apartment in the house’s garage under plans prepared by Tommaso Briatico Architects. Work is complete on the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center’s new steel clad and polycarbonate façade on Franklin Street. Funded through the County’s capital projects fund and the RENEW Plan, the previous concrete façade is now much more modern and inviting. The new façade design incorporates steel cladding and a polycarbonate face that is backlit using color-changing LED lighting.  The remaining façade will be repointed and power washed. Trautman Associates oversaw the project. The facade makeover follows a recent investment of $1.2 million in Convention Center lobby improvements including new flooring and lighting.

A near East Side affordable housing complex is undergoing long overdue upgrades.  Ellicott Park Townhomes is a 220-unit family Section 8 (68% or 150 units) affordable housing community located in twenty-one two-story wood frame with brick façade townhouse style buildings located at the southwest corner of William and Hickory streets. Work is nearing completion on the Niagara Street Studio complex at 1155 Niagara Street. Great Point Capital Management is developing the multi-phased project that was announced in 2020. This first phase includes 51,350 sq.ft. of space including a 20,000 sq.ft. main studio and two 5,000 sq.ft. studios. The balance of the building will be support space.
