Author: Austin Rexinger

Austin Rexinger was born in Amherst, NY and is a graduate of Canisius College. Austin is completely obsessed with cars, especially the tremendous innovation in today’s automotive market. Austin has driven everything from electric cars to six-figure exotics. Upon learning to drive a manual transmission in a 2012 Mini Cooper S, any doubt that Austin may have had regarding his passion for automobiles completely disappeared. He was absolutely hooked. If it has four wheels, a seat, and a steering wheel, you can count on Austin being interested. When Austin isn't writing about the auto industry you can find him racing go-karts, competing in time attack events, or autocrossing his Ford Focus ST.

The terms ‘Luxury’ and ‘Electric’ have been non-corresponding in the automotive industry until very recently. Porsche has brought a luxury, high-performance electric vehicle (EV) to the global market with the release of the 2020 Taycan. We got a sneak peak of the new Taycan at the Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum on Wednesday.  Tesla fans may argue that a luxury EV has indeed been available for quite some time with the Model S sedan and Model X SUV, but those who have experienced a Tesla product first-hand may say otherwise. The fit, finish, and overall refinement is where Tesla is…

I’ve covered electric cars (EVs) for Buffalo Rising in the past, but not the Nissan LEAF. It may be overshadowed by Tesla and Chevrolet, but with more than 350,000 models sold globally since its origination in 2010, it’s worth dissecting. With a sub-$30K starting price, the LEAF is cheaper than both Chevy EVs—the Volt, and Bolt, and far cheaper than any Tesla Model 3 on the road. Cheap doesn’t mean bad, though. The LEAF may be the most well-rounded EV on the market. The 2018 Nissan LEAF was named “2018 World Green Car” by the World Car Awards. More significantly,…

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado has been completely redesigned but its heart is still  assembled close to home. Pick-up truck owners tend to carry a high degree of pride for their functional, four-wheel-drive vehicles throughout the country, but what if we told you that there’s even more reason to be proud of owning a pick-up in Buffalo? Owning a truck–more specifically a Chevrolet Silverado in Buffalo means more than being able to tow and haul just about anything. It means more than being able to tackle whatever winter weather is thrown in your direction. It means that you own a truck…

You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful fall day. It’s sunny, and temperatures are approaching 41 degrees. Believe it or not, this is the perfect weather to be thinking about snow tires. The last thing that you need is to be dealing with the headache of figuring out tire replacement strategies once the snow begins to fly (and stick). Preparing for winter driving conditions is essential, and there are plenty of ways to be proactive, according to WNY Car Guy Austin Rexinger.  In order to show you the ins and outs of proper winter driving preparation, Austin has produced a handy-dandy…

Tomorrow marks the start of the annual Buffalo Auto Show that will run through Sunday February 12. For the 2017 show there will be plenty of new cars worth leaving the house and making the trip to the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. Noteworthy cars include the redesigned for 2017 Porsche Panamera, all-new Maserati Levante SUV, all-new Volvo S90 and the not-so-new (but rare) Alfa Romeo 4C. Despite the small size of the Alfa, it will hold a lot of attention and is bound to be quite the showstopper. That four pack will impress, but each comes with a hefty price…

Buffalo is an amazing city, but I think we are all guilty of the occasional hometown bashing. Whether you were born here or not, we all play this back and forth game, bouncing from love and loyalty to disappointment and outcry. The outcry usually comes after a loss on Sunday… I know I’m not the only one guilty of this. We ride this wave, up and down, but last week took me so far from the down and skyrocketed me to an all time high. Seven days after this years 43North competition at Shea’s, and I’m still awestruck. The third…

The automotive industry as we know it is drastically changing. Innovations in the last ten years focusing on safety, performance, technology, and efficiency have brought us to a time where vehicles drive and park themselves, and 30 mpg is merely something to scoff at. With imposed government regulations cracking down on large, inefficient engines, manufacturers have explored hybrid options, and more recently, electric solutions. I was recently given the opportunity to live with a 2016 Chevrolet Volt for one week to see what one major automotive competitor has produced in the fight against these new rules and regulations. First off,…
