The Painting for Preservation team will set up on Sunday, September 11 at St. Adalbert Basilica located at 212 Stanislaus Street from 9:30am to 1pm for an “Art-In.” Artists, photographers, community members, East Side advocates and parishioners are invited to participate and observe. Painting for Preservation is an initiative aimed at drawing attention to distressed, at-risk, and under-utilized historic locations through on site art making. The Larkin District is getting squared. Work is underway at creating a public square and central gathering spot for the blossoming neighborhood. “Larkin Square” is being created at the intersection of Seneca, Swan and Van Rensselaer streets. According to the Larkin Development Group, the innovative public square intended to be a gathering space; an urban hub which will include retail market stalls, food trucks, both fun and practical furniture, and public sculpture. A mix of food, music, movies, and festivals are envisioned to liven up the space. It will be available to Larkin District employees, neighbors and visitors.
