As part of West Side Bazaars ongoing cultural events, on Saturday (4/22/2017) from 2 pm to 5 pm West Side Bazaar business owners will be hosting a Myanmar New Year’s celebration at the Bazaar (25 Grant Street). This will include traditional song, dance, music, workshops, and Burmese snacks. Dancers representing Karen, Chin, and Karenni ethnic groups will perform. In addition, we will have a comedic dance with dobat music and a Thingyan dace group, where participation will be welcomed in the dance.
A special workshop will be held by small business owner in the Bazaar Ma Theint. Ma will be doing traditional face painting using Thanaka cream as well as the padauk flowers (the symbol of Myanmar new years & national flower of Burma) in women’s hair.
Taste traditional snacks including Mont Lone Yay Paw (Rice Balls) This is one of the most popular snacks during the Burmese New Year’s Festival. It’s a sweet shared and cooked With friends and family that’s recipe Includes shredded coconut, palm sugar, glutinous rice flour, water, bird’s eye chilies and served on banana leaf.
