Those keen on presidential memorabilia as it pertains to Buffalo will be interested to attend an upcoming exhibit at the Margaret L Wendt Archive and Resource Center – 1990 Main Street. The exhibit showcases rare and unusual artifacts related to presidents that have visited Buffalo between 1817 and 2013.
Presidential artifacts from Abraham Lincoln, Grover Cleveland, William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt will be on hand. A special “Forest Lawn Connection” will also be on display, featuring a fascinating look at items that help to tell the stories of President Millard Fillmore and Democratic Presidential hopeful candidate, Shirley Chisholm, both of whom are buried at the cemetery.
The exhibit and the artifacts present would not have been possible without the valuable resources of the Buffalo Presidential Center’s Elwin Richardson Collection and the personal collections of Bren T. Price, Sr. and Brad Hunt, Mark Evans, John Vargo, Steven Cohen and George Cleveland.
One of the most coveted artifacts to be displayed is The Grover Cleveland Bible. The bible was presented to Cleveland by his mother at the age of 15, and was also the bible used when he took the oath of office in 1885 and 1893.
