Tuesday, April 5 is a big day for taco lovers. Deep South Taco is planning on giving away free tacos from 1pm to 5pm. The reason? The taco giveaway is part of an even bigger promotion – a Cinco de Mayo festival being thrown by the restaurant one month later. The idea for Tuesday’s taco giveaway came about when Deep South Taco owner Richard Hamilton figured that Buffalo needed to do something big for Cinco de Mayo… something really big. That’s why this free taco Tuesday event is just the precursor to the big day to follow – Cinco De May Street Fiesta.
In appreciating of the restaurant’s initial fanfare, and in anticipation of its new Hertel location (coming soon), owner/chef Richard Hamilton is giving away free tacos.
“The event is a mash-up of sorts,” says Hamilton. “We’re taking the best parts of a Mexican fiesta, and combining them with some of Buffalo’s authentic musicians and performers. When I heard that there was not a dedicated Cinco de Mayo celebration in the city, I figured that it was time to shut the street down, open the rooftop VIP cabanas/private bar and the expansive indoor/outdoor patio, and create a Cinco De May Street Fiesta that rivals the best of ’em. This is the best way that I know how, to show that I am dedicated to this city.”
In the meantime, anyone who wants a free taco on Tuesday can show up at Deep South Taco between 1pm and 5pm. One taco per person, though taco fans are welcome to go through the line twice to double up. Choose from four taco varieties – takeout only, with food and drink specials offered on that day.
