Phil Machemer, owner of Revolver Records, couldn’t have come onto the vinyl scene at a better time. For the last couple of summers, I have come to know Phil through The Peddler flea market on Elmwood Avenue. Phil is the consummate purveyor of records in the city of Buffalo, yet at the same time, the guy only wheels and deals at pseudo temporary stands. That is… until now.
At long last, vinyl hounds can now find Phil and his otherworldly collection of records on Hertel Avenue. Thankfully, Phil finally succumbed to the temptations of brick and mortar. Now Phil is slinging his records at 1451 Hertel Avenue – a corner location that is as high profile and it is easy to browse.
Phil’s record emporium has a listening station where customers can check out their purchases… before they even make the purchase. Just about every vinyl recording under the sun is available at Revolver Records… if it’s worth listening to I should say. Phil doesn’t sell crap, because he doesn’t take crap. His reputation precedes him – the guy is an on the level, aficionado of obscure, sought-after, beautiful, classic, and off-beat vinyl treasures. Buffalo is lucky to have such a formidable vinyl resource in its midst.
Living so close to a time period that almost witnessed the death of vinyl, I can assuredly say that I am pleasantly shocked at the relatively overnight advancement of the local vinyl retail industry. Now Hertel is the most recent beneficiary of this latest trend – the street continues to evolve thanks to the notable efforts of Revolver.
