Buffalo’s premiere boat building center is hosting an Open House Happy Hour on Friday, May 22, 2015. It’s incredible to think that the Buffalo Maritime Center (BMC) has already been operating out of its headquarters in Black Rock for four years. In that time, the non-profit educational institution has been rolling out boat building projects that help to tell the maritime story of Buffalo. The center is also responsible for teaching Buffalo’s youth boat building skills that will allow them to develop social values and creative abilities as they advance in life.
Now the BMC staff and volunteers – the glue of the operation – invite you to come check out the projects that they have been working on (many that you can also see at the Inner Harbor). Whether you’re interested in seeing the tangible results of the BMC team, or you’re interested in learning about the traditional skills classes and workshops, a visit to the boatbuilding center will not disappoint. Come hear about the future plans of BMC, and enjoy some beer, wine, drinks, pizza and snacks during your visit.
If you’re a fan of maritime history, as it pertains to Buffalo, or you have always dreamed of building a classic runabout, sailboat, kayak or canoe, this is a wonderful opportunity to meet those in the community who dedicate their lives to classic boat building throughout the year.
