Leave it to Squeaky Wheel to come up with a plan to provide free movie showings at Canalside. The first ingredient is, of course, to have such a premiere screening venue at hand. The second ingredient is a grassroots, artist-run, non-profit media arts center to handle the film aspect. Take the two, add some good weather, a bunch of picnic blankets and baskets, and you have an outdoor cinema event that would make any waterfront proud.
Here is a detailed line-up of events:
7/8: Black Maria Film Festival (w/ Festival Director in-person)
7/15: The Goonies
7/22: Dumb & Dumber
7/29: The Dark Knight
8/5: Squeaky Wheel Animation Feast
8/12: The Big Lebowski
8/19: Silent/Sound: Surrealist films w/ live score by The Vores (one of Buffalo’s first post-punk bands)
8/26 – Endless Summer Remix Dance Party w/ Live DJ’s
Food vendors and music will start at 8:30pm. Films at sundown. Adirondack chairs will be available for the first 100 guests.
