If you were a goldfish, living in a goldfish bowl, and you were dropped into the ocean, along with your spherical glass home, what would you need to survive? Could you live on the limited amount of resources provided (the bowl and some fresh water), or would you require something else to survive? In the video game world of Shutshimi, developed by Buffalo’s Neon Deity Games*, a resourceful goldfish is outfitted with a variety of hats to don… along with some serious fire power! Check it out:
According to a description provided by developer Anthony Swinnich, each round lasts for about ten seconds (purportedly the max amount of time equated to a gold fish’s memory). After the round is over the player must score a power-up (not as easy as it sounds). The rogue goldfish is left to defend his (or her) home in this shoot-em-up (or SHMUP as they’re called) game that pits you (the fish) against an unfriendly oceanic world. “Development began in August for the Ludum Dare game jam competition,” said Anthony. “We just released the game on Thursday, May 8, 2014, so it was finished between eight and nine months from the start of production. We have plans to create more games and are planning to produce other products as well. We just showed off the game on Saturday at The Bit Bazaar in Toronto, which is part of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival.”
A free demo is up at the website, and a free demo is also available on Xbox Live as well.
