After the giant success of Labatt Pond Hockey tournament, and then a day of curling lessons given by the Buffalo Curling Club the following weekend, skaters and outdoor enthusiasts are preparing for another big day out on the rinks this coming Saturday (at Riverworks).
Not only will The Buffalo Curling Club be hosting their inaugural Bonspiel on Saturday, March 8 from 8:30am to 8pm (see Facebook event), there will be an all day open skate for anyone who wants to come down and test out the new outdoor rinks.
Bring your skates down to Riverworks from roughly 9am to 9pm, and enjoy some serious ice time along the Buffalo River. For those interested in being spectators at the tournament, there will be plenty to check out as the party atmosphere continues to heat up at the newest waterfront destination in Buffalo. “We had no idea what to expect when we started planning for last weekend’s Learn to Curl sessions,” said Danielle (Kuc) Buchbinder, President of the Buffalo Curling Club. “The response was way better than we could have imagined! There’s no doubt curling interest is alive and well in Buffalo, NY and that we’ll be able to launch many leagues in Fall of 2014. Thanks to everyone for their support. We’re looking forward to some friendly rivalry this weekend with registrants coming as far away as far away as Cleveland, Ohio, St. Catharines, Ontario and Rochester, New York, and we encourage the general public to join us for some fun, food and fresh air at the Buffalo Curling Club’s Inaugural Bonspiel.”
