Nobody wants a cookie cutter wedding. The one (hopefully) special day means that two people (and a whole lot of friends and family) will embark upon a planning journey that will lead to an event to remember. The only problem is, who has time to research all of the intricate little details that will set one wedding apart from another?
When you think about weddings, one of the first items of order is the wedding card. There are a million different places to go, both online and in person, so what makes one card more special than another?
To me, there’s an easy answer. Buffalo is fortunate to have am artisan card outfit that does a great job ensuring that the invitation to the wedding is both impressive and memorable.
Alyson MacVittie, owner of Rust Belt Love, has been crafting wedding invites for a few years now, and in that time she has made a name for herself and her business in the local wedding scene. “We designed our first wedding invitation as Rust Belt Love in 2010,” said Alyson. “Since then we have expanded to full event design and coordination. With a background in traditional illustration, everything we do is custom and hand drawn; we don’t use stock or templates. We take that “this might be totally crazy” idea that couples have and turn it into something beautiful and unique to that couple. Everything from Harry Potter-Inspired invitations, to invitations with the look of baseball laces. Last year we added reception design and same-day coordination to our repertoire. We develop close relationships with our couples and they started asking us to help carry out their style and vision through their whole event. We mostly work with indie couples that are looking for something different from the big books of stock designs and typical wedding mag decor available out there. It’s why the Boutique Bridal Party (see info below) has been such a great fit for us. The folks that come to these shows are looking for local, small businesses that are receptive to out-of-the-box ideas and not the same old same old. My husband and I are both originally from WNY, but moved away after high school. We moved back to Buffalo from NYC in 2007. In 2009 we bought and gut-renovated our 100 year old house in the Elmwood Village, the third floor of which is now our studio. A dog, a baby, and 4 years later here we are.”
To see Rust Belt Love, and a host of other unique wedding planners, arrangers, outfits, designers, etc., be sure to check out this very quaint and unusual bridal prep DIY get-together being held at The Mansion on Delaware. At the boutique party you will be able to get a better sense about what it takes to make a wedding more thoughtful and more personal, instead of going down a homogenized road that can be so easy to take!
