2014 CAPITAL BUDGET RECEIVES APPROVAL
Requiring approval by December 15th of 2013, the Council moved to approve the 2014 Capital Budget, despite last minute efforts to find financing for Downtown Buffalo’s only first-run movie theater, The Market Arcade. “To use capital funds…to buy digital projectors for a building that we essentially don’t own…we couldn’t legally justify it,” Majority Leader Demone A. Smith stated. Ellicott District Councilmember Darius G. Pridgen concluded that the Council would continue to look for ways to aid the Market Arcade moving forward, adding, “Their entertainment is just as important to the City of Buffalo as the Buffalo Zoo or Shea’s,” citing access and affordability among the reasons.

In slightly-related news, the Capital Budget includes funds for a new commercial kitchen at the Market.
