While making the culinary circuit earlier today (Sweet_ness 7, Guercio’s, Wegmans, Tastings, Wintermarket, Lex Co-op, Village Beer Merchant and Blue Mountain Coffee) we scored when we discovered that Wegmans was celebrating a yearly corporate victory. For twelve years, the market has repeatedly ranked as one of the top 100 companies to work for (Fortune). That’s why they baked a bunch of cakes to share with customers, before eventually digging into the big one (seen here) for the themselves. The employees of course deserve the treat since they just hit five-in-five… the last five years the company has landed in the top five bracket.
We spoke to Danielle Parete (left) and Alessandra Desimone (right) who were flagging down customers to partake in the victory. “We’re number five this year,” they told me. “We wanted to share something with the customers… Wegmans really is the best place to work!” Congratulations to the business, which has a stronghold on the boutique market business in Buffalo. I have heard from a couple of reliable sources that Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods have both looked at this market, but realize that it would be extremely difficult to compete with Wegmans. If that is true, then the honor is well deserved.
