Tale Me More—Again, is the second installment of “not your usual poetry reading”—a show with a passionate beat of the heart and soul, slams down pulsing words and rhythmic music of some of the area’s most powerful poetic voices.
Hosted and coordinated by Poet Tysheka “Spoken” Long, one of Buffalo’s premiere spoken word artists, this event promises to challenge your definition of a poetry reading.
Artists include Garry “Black Magic” Collins, an up and coming visual artist and musician specializing in Spanish Guitar. Garry has preformed at Villa Maria College “Battle Battle”, Hallwalls, African & African American Diversity Conference (McKinley High School), and is a regular at El Museo.
The young Rain Bethel-Cooper may be considered an old soul with a fresh voice. In addition to creating artwork at Locust Street, she gained inspiration for writing from witnessing grant writing at Locust Street. That’s when she realized “writing gave you the power of voice!” She became involved in spoken word in 2004. Her first poetry performance was at EM Tea Coffee Cup Café. Since then she has performed for Just Buffalo at Klienhan’s Music Hall, El Museo, the Buffalo Museum of Science and is a former Njozi poet.
Nikki Germany’s grooving, strong and intense poetics explore life, loss and celebration of oneself. Nikki is Nickel City’s 2007 Grand Slam Champ, and a 2008 Nickel City Regional Team member.
Tysheka “Spoken” Long has been a part of Buffalos Poetry scene for the past 7 years, performing at several venues including EM Tea Coffee Cup Café, El Museo Gallery, the Buffalo Museum of Science and the Albright Knox in the Poetry Slam finals. Formally an Njozi Poet, she has performed in many venues around Buffalo including the “Sisters Perspective”.
