Always on top of the latest “it” in trends, New Era Cap Co. Inc. has issued 7 new cap designs for the upcoming presidential inauguration.
Starting today, New Era will be selling Barack Obama-inspired caps in all of its stores, with between 75 and 100 hats being available locally at their Delaware Avenue location. Limited to 7,000 in the series, the company may produce more in March, depending on public demand.
According to New Era spokesperson Dana Marciniak, there’s been a call for Obama hats for the past few months. “Customers were looking for an Obama hat, so our retail partners let us know and we went to work.”
New Era employs nearly 30 designers locally, 4 or 5 of whom came up with the final renditions. “Typically a few designers will do 15 or so renderings, and then a group will get together and winnow it down to the best examples of what they’re looking for. It’s pretty amazing that we were able to do this so quickly.”
Part of the 59Fifty style in The Definition Series, the hats will bear “words that resonated throughout the Obama campaign,” Marciniak said. “Hope, dream, progress, change – and one that will read ‘Obama 44th President’.”
The hats will be available at New Era Flagship stores in Buffalo, New York City and Atlanta, as well as The Villa in Philidelphia and Finish Line in Chicago and Washington, DC. No Obama hats will be available for online purchase. The price is approximately $35. Check the New Era website for store hours and information.
New Era will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Hip Hop Summit Youth Council.
