Preservation Buffalo Niagara seeks nominations of places and people who made a difference in preservation across Western New York
2022 was a tough year for preservation efforts in Buffalo, with plenty of setbacks, including The Great Northern and Carr’s Cobblestone Buildings.
Although it’s a shame that we continue to lose our beloved historic buildings, we must pay tribute to the places and the people who inspire us to do better.
The Preservation Awards specifically honor places and people who uplift our communities, strengthen our region, and promote more equitable, sustainable, and vibrant neighborhoods.
To that end, Preservation Buffalo Niagara (PBN) has announced that it is seeking nominations (places and people) to be acknowledged for The 13th annual Preservation Awards.
Awards will honor achievements in any combination of the following areas: Commercial Project, Residential Project, Legacy Businesses, Neighborhood Preservation, Preservation Craft, Preservation Leadership, and Emerging Preservation Leader.
Interim Executive Director Corey Fabian-Barrett said, “We are honored to spotlight local projects that bring our communities closer together and highlight our historic past while demonstrating preservation’s positive impact on our region’s future. We believe preservation is truly for everyone and look forward to celebrating the exceptional places and people who make our region so special together in May.”
Past Preservation Award winners have included the Olmsted Parks Conservancy, Robert T. Coles, School 77, the King Urban Life Center, Turner Brothers Lofts, SACRA Construction Skills Training Program, Hamlin Park Taxpayer and Community Association, and The Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor Commission’s Strategic Action Plan.
Please take the time to nominate a person or place that you feel should be recognized. After all, so often we focus on the bad eggs… we must take time to acknowledge and properly commend those who continue the good fight.
