Buffalo’s sports personalities have always stepped up to help the local community. This is most beneficial when the occasional professional athlete launches a foundation, which is the case with Buffalo Bills’ player Dion Dawkins, who is now celebrating the formation of Dion’s Dreamers.
On 716 Day, Dion’s Dreamers will be officially launching, with a pop-up “Christmas in July” street party in North Buffalo (look for a visit from Santa).
Winter is coming, and the #Shnowman is hitting the Buffalo streets.
As for the new organization, Dawkins (#73 – NFL offensive tackle for the Buffalo Bills) is determined to provide mentorship and support to young men and women in underserved communities here in Buffalo. He is also concerned about addressing and resolving environmental issues that affect struggling communities.
The launch event is free to attend, and open to the public. Children and adults will find plenty of interactive activities at the street party (Hertel blocks will be shut down between Saranac and Norfolk).
“I’m so happy that Dion chose to host this launch event in North Buffalo,” said Delaware District councilmember Joel Feroleto. “It sounds as if this is an incredible initiative that will help to boost all of Buffalo. I hope that people come down to support Dion and his dream, while having some fun on Hertel.”
Christmas in July is Friday, July 16 – Family Time: 4pm-6:30pm | Party time: 6:30pm-10pm
Aside from tackling the serious issues, Dawkins (Buffalo’s big, fun adopted son) likes to have some fun in the Shnow. Although he resides in Miami during the off-season, he has come to appreciate Buffalo’s winters, which is when he is playing ball. As part of his “Shnowman” persona (a nickname that was coined in prep school), Dawkins has teamed up with The BFLO Store, where three of his ice cream flavors are served up (inspired by his Shnow catchphrases) – the Shnow Sundae, the Shnow-Man Cone, and the Shnow Blizzard (available at the BFLO Store location in the McKinley mall).
