It turns out that a second regional attraction is competing for votes from the public. Moments ago, I learned that the National Comedy Center has also been nominated for USA Today’s 2018 10 Best Readers’ Choice travel awards. Earlier today, I was made aware that Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center was a contender in the competition. That means that WNY has at least two worthy travel destinations competing for the award.
“When the leaderboard was hidden by USA Today two days ago, the National Comedy Center was in the lead (running neck and neck with a park in Tulsa). We believe that a win for Western New York would be wonderful — either the National Comedy Center or the Underground Railroad Heritage Center. We do hope Western New Yorkers will vote daily, now through Monday at noon,” said Gary Hahn of the National Comedy Center. “We’ve had lots of support from the comedy and entertainment community. Carl Reiner, Jim Gaffigan, Lily Tomlin, Lewis Black, Lucie Arnaz, Priscilla Presley, Jerry Seinfeld’s manager George Shapiro, and the estates of George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Joan Rivers, Rodney Dangerfield, Lenny Bruce, and Rose Marie have all been posting on social media, asking people to vote for the National Comedy Center.”
The National Comedy Center is located in legendary comedic character Lucille Ball’s hometown of Jamestown, NY.
