The Elmwood Village Association (EVA) and Elmwood businesses (Elmwood Strip merchant group) have announced that they will be throwing an inaugural Octoberfest celebration. Over 30 Elmwood businesses, along with Elmwood Village Farmers Market, will be participating in the festival, which will feature a shop crawl, live music events, Sunday brunch, local beer, wine, and cider tastings, face painting, and a pumpkin patch (from a local farm).
Visitors to Elmwood’s Octoberfest will be able to pick up punch cards from the participating businesses, which will qualify people for a raffle of Elmwood Village gift certificates and admission to select events. The punch cards can be found at:
Acropolis, Mr. Goodbar, Nine29, Taste of Siam, the Place, Half & Half, Poster Art, Perks Cafe, Shoefly, ShopCraft, Ten Thousand Villages and Thin Ice. Completed cards will be collected at Acropolis, Half & Half, Nine29, Perks, Thin Ice, Thin Man, and the Place. Participants can begin picking up punch cards on Friday at 4pm. Completed punch cards qualify for a raffle.
All of the businesses will be organizing special Octoberfest surprises for visitors throughout the weekend of Friday, October 12 to Sunday October 14.
Councilman Feroleto shared his enthusiasm for the event by saying, “I am thrilled to partner with so many local businesses and the Elmwood Village Association for a weekend of exciting events on the Elmwood Strip!” Feroleto’s office will also be sponsoring a free shuttle during the event, with a park and ride lot at the Gallagher Ramp at 499 Elmwood, the former Children’s Hospital site – there will be numerous shuttle stops along Elmwood.
This sort of celebrated fall activity is a long time coming for the street. Aubrey Hlavaty, Ashland Avenue resident said, “I’m excited to see more fun, family-friendly events coming to the Elmwood Village! We love walking the neighborhood and visiting all our favorite shops!” Paul Tsouflidis, owner of Acropolis OPA shared, “As a business owner I am excited to be part of a street wide event like Octoberfest. We have the whole neighborhood covered with activities and events for the entire weekend. It’s great to see the Elmwood Village business community embrace this event!”
Friday October 12 kicks off the event at several neighborhood locations featuring happy hour specials followed by family friendly events on Saturday from 8am – 9pm and Sunday from 11am – 6pm.
