Donut lovers and recyclers are mourning the loss of a local landmark this week. Uniland Development Company tore down the structure that housed Bucks 4 Bottles and formerly Dickie’s Donuts at 1866 Elmwood Avenue. The property at the northwest corner of Elmwood and hertel and those around it are being prepared for Uniland’s planned mixed-use development.
The circa-1950 building is being removed, along with old fencing behind it, and the site will be cleared. This is expected to improve the look of the corner and allow for a blank canvas for continued planning. Uniland previously removed part of the industrial building behind it and old growth near it so the site will be opened up, safer and more visually appealing.
1866 Elmwood is part of Uniland’s 20-acre redevelopment project. Uniland’s team is meeting with various parties about locating businesses and residential uses there. It may not be all new construction however.
“We are seeing increased interest in the building at 1934 Elmwood, currently a three-story 15,000 square foot structure, and are exploring those options,” According to Jill Pawlik, Uniland’s Senior Marketing Manager. “We have a demo permit for that, as well, but we see potential for an adaptive re-use of that building for office space and lofts with an industrial feel.”
