Initial work is underway at 122 Genesee Street, the former Seeger-Scherer Furniture Store. An interior demolition permit was issued in April. The project by Chris Jacobs will include a mix of 22 apartments and first-floor commercial space. Abstract Architecture is working on the reuse plan.
Exterior rehabilitation will include repair to deteriorated masonry and mortar joints, restoration of existing windows that are not significantly deteriorated, installation of new aluminum clad wood windows to match the appearance of the existing historic, and restoration of the existing storefront.
Jacobs purchased the property in 2024 for $700,000 and has completed a number of downtown adaptive reuse projects on Main Street in the Theater District.
